Boost Off-Road Performance with a Reliable Exhaust System
Jeeps are designed for superior performance on rough terrain. But by sticking with the restrictive factory exhaust that came with your vehicle, you’re failing to maximize your Jeep’s true potential. Upgrading your exhaust system is a great way to add power, torque, and fuel efficiency to your four-wheeler.
A reliable exhaust system gives your Jeep a more aggressive sound while enhancing its durability. By opting for a wider header, straighter mid, and smoother cat-back exhaust, you can push fumes through the system and boost overall engine performance. For maximum weather resistance, choose an exhaust made from stainless steel or heavily coated steel to prevent rusting.

Frequently Asked Questions: Exhausts
How does an exhaust system work?
Vehicle exhausts systems collect exhaust gases from your engine as part of the combustion process. These gases will then go to the central exhaust passage so your car expels them into the atmosphere. Through this process, your exhaust helps your vehicle produce fewer noises and better emissions while improving its performance and fuel economy.
How can I tell if my vehicle has an exhaust leak?
Your car could have a leaking exhaust if it shows the following symptoms:
An excessively noisy engine
Loss of power and acceleration
Reduced fuel efficiency
Burning smell from parts within your engine bay
A hanging cat-back exhaust pipe
The smell of gas entering your vehicle as it runs
In any of these cases, you’ll need to replace the exhaust.
How do I check for an exhaust leak?
Look at your exhaust manifold to see any rust. You can also check the exhaust pipes running below your car and see if it has any holes, dents, or cracks. If your car is also experiencing substantial dips in performance, you might have to check other areas of your vehicle for possible leaks or damages.
How do I fix an exhaust leak?
You can repair a leaking auto exhaust using any of the methods below.
Replacing a damaged gasket directly
Removing and changing the mufflers and catalytic converters
Applying epoxy bond or tape to the exhaust
Make sure to clean the exhaust surfaces before changing the parts out and that the replacement parts are compatible with your existing exhaust system.
How do I clean my car’s exhaust?
For the exhaust piping, you can simply use soap and water to clean it. Clear out the inside of the pipe using a hard bristled brush. Apply degreaser on the inside and outside of the exhaust. You can also apply metal polish to give your exhaust piping a cleaner look.
As for your catalytic converter, first use an OBD-II scanner to check if the converter is causing any problems. Otherwise, proceed with cleaning. Look for any loose parts inside your catalytic converter. Pour catalytic converter cleaner into your gas tank and run your car until it has a low fuel level. Fill your tank afterward.
For your manifolds, make sure your car isn’t running before attempting to remove them. Disconnect the hoses and apply lubricating oil to the heat shield bolts. Remove these fasteners and pour lacquer thinner on your manifold. Clean the exterior area using steel wool and a wire brush. Apply lacquer thinner as you clean the manifolds, then let it dry before putting it back into your engine.
